Bedroom Furniture - Modern Vs. Contemporary

Posted by Steve on 07/07/2009 under Bed Frames.

Bedrooms need to be tastefully decorated, and this includes the bed and other bedroom furniture. The types and styles of bedroom furniture available are bewildering, what with furniture, such as a dressing table – with or without a mirror; chest of drawers; wardrobe; and, of course, the centrepiece of any bedroom – the bed. You have a choice of selecting your bedroom furniture that could be modern, contemporary, rustic, or antique, among other styles.

The choice becomes more difficult if you are not replacing the complete bedroom furniture but are picking up a few pieces, as these should fit in with the existing furniture.

Modern Or Contemporary

There are many things to consider. With kids and pets in the house your choice comes down to not so expensive furniture and whether you want the furniture on a long term basis, or wish to change it after a couple of years.

Today, people prefer opting for either modern or contemporary bedroom furniture. With the type of lifestyle they lead, they prefer furniture that is easy to maintain and is compact. What people look for is the style that does not take up too much space, and is light in weight, making it easier to shift it around. One needs to change the ambiance of one’s living space, on and off.

Furniture created between, say, 1915 and 1945 would be termed as modern. Gone was the traditional furniture made from wood. Modern bedroom furniture is that made from materials, such as steel, sturdy plastic, and glass. These are light in weight and do not take up much space.

Contemporary bedroom furniture incorporates designs from antique styles, ethnic as well as rustic styles, and also a blend of all the three and more. Materials would be wood, faux wood and a variety of fabrics incorporated with them.

The choice is entirely up to you.
