Sleep Improves Memory

Sleep is essential to the well being of the body and mind. Without it, people suffer from mental forgetfulness and lack of coordination. Remembering people, places and details becomes difficult. In fact, studies have shown how someone deprived of sleep can descend into depression if deprived of sleep for long enough. Armed with this information, it is entirely reasonable to say that sleep is as necessary to human beings as air, water and food. Sleep is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. Anyone who has suffered from a minor or extended bout with insomnia knows that sleep cannot be taken for granted, either.
Sleep is important for keeping your body running at optimal efficiency. All the stress felt during the day is released while we sleep. We are restoring the body and mind which recharges us for the day that lies ahead. Sleep deprivation has become a common problem that runs rampant in society today. There is always more work to do and never enough time to get it. However, one should not sacrifice sleep as the body needs sleep to function. Without sleep, that work that needs to get done will get done in a shoddy manner and that doesn’t do anyone a bit of good.
Sleep is crucial to brain development and it also helps the mind process what has happened during the day. Without sleep, people report feeling foggy and forgetful. This is to be expected, since it is while we sleep that the brain categorizes the events of the day and burns it into our memory. Remove sleep and that doesn’t happen. Sleep is of paramount importance to proper brain function. Stress is a reason often reported for lack of sleep. But without sleep, the body has no way of reducing and recharging from the effect of sleep. So stress works with the sleep deprivation in a snowball effect that leaves the person befuddled, confused and exhausted. Not to mention stress ridden. A good night’s sleep can rid a person of many if not all of the symptoms of stress.
A good night’s sleep gives the brain some time off. Think about the brain like a computer—a computer needs some down time, and so does the human brain. Consider whether the quality of sleep that is being had, or lack thereof, is a result of your bed. To really get a decent nights sleep you need a quality bed and comfortable mattress.
