Getting a good night of sleep is essential to the health and well being of people of all ages. The benefits of getting sufficient sleep and rest are many. From helping your memory to reducing stress, sleep can aid you in healing and recharging. Sleep helps keep your heart healthy and reduces inflammation in the body. A person is more alert when they get a good night’s sleep. Sleep can also reduce your risk of depression. The body goes into its natural healing mode while it sleeps. Doctors tout the benefits of getting a good night’s sleep consistently all the time.
If a good night’s sleep is not being had, if a person finds themselves waking several times during the night; then other issues must be looked at. The age of the bed and mattress can have a lot to do with the quality and amount of sleep being had. It could be time for a new bed. The importance of a good mattress as it relates to getting quality sleep should not be overlooked. A mattress can be firm or not firm, that is purely personal preference. If the bed is older than ten years old, if it is lumpy or has grooves in the mattress, it is time to get a new one.
With the busy pace of life today, sleep seems to fall farther and farther down people’s lists of priorities. But it is a simple fact that everybody no matter who they are needs sleep. Sleep is the body’s natural state of restoring itself to its full physical and mental capabilities. Regular sleep is essential for the survival of all mammals. That is a simple fact. Without sleep the stress to the body and mind would eventually prove to be too great. Sleep restores and recharges. Sleep heals and repairs.
For adults, it is generally recommended that seven to nine hours of sleep per night are obtained. Keeping an environment free of noise and sound can make sleep come easier. A window cracked open to circulate fresh air can help sleep. A good mattress that is supportive and comfortable is one of the most important variables in a good night’s sleep. The more comfortable a person is, the better they are likely to sleep.
