If you’ve decided that it’s time purchase a set of bunk beds for your child's bedroom, you want to be sure that you’re making a good investment. There are many different types of bed for a childs bedroom such as childrens divan sets, racing car beds or even fire engine beds but many parents find having a bunk bed allows extra room in the childs bedroom. This is not a decision to take lightly. After all, if you take the time to consider all of your options, this could be a decision that you’ll be proud of for years to come. Aside from determining the budget that you’ll have to spend on the new set of bunk beds, probably the biggest decision to make is in choosing between metal beds and wooden beds. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, but only one choice is right for you.

Metal bunk beds offer a sense of contemporary sleekness that simply is not found in most wooden bunk sets. The metal bed frames come in a variety of colors and material finishes so, of course, you can decide what works best with the decor of the room you are trying to complete. Another advantage of metal bunk beds is that they are fairly simple to assemble, which is especially helpful for students who will be taking their bunks to a college dorm room. An added feature on some metal bunk bed sets is that there is often a futon option available for the lower bunk. Especially for a college student again, the lower bunk can be used as a sofa when it’s time for studying or as an extra bed for an overnight guest.

Wooden bunk beds, however, have many features that are typically unavailable in metal sets. For example, instead of a ladder, you could find a wooden set that has stairs built into the frame. The stairs are wider and much safer for small children to climb on than ladders are. As an added feature, those same stairs often have drawers built into them for storage or for replacing a set of dresser drawers. Many of the wooden sets are also intricately carved with decorations in the headboards and footboards, which can add a sense of beauty to any room that just isn’t found with the metal bunk beds.

Whether you choose wooden bunk beds or metal bunk beds, take your time and do some research. A kids bed is an investment, and just as you wouldn’t rush into the purchase of a vehicle without proper research, neither should you rush into the purchase of bunk beds.
