Beds - A Dilemma Of Size
Posted by Jay on 22/09/2009 under Beds.
There are several standard bed sizes: single beds, double beds, king size beds and super king size beds. Each size has its own advantages and disadvantages which you should consider carefully before you invest in a new bed.
The first thing to consider when buying a bed is your budget. If you can sleep well on a less expensive mattress, you might be able to afford a bigger size, but if you need a high-quality mattress, you may have to go with a small size that fits your needs. Not only are big beds more expensive, but they are also more expensive to outfit with sheets and other accessories. Keep in mind, though, that while beds are expensive, they are also a long-term investment.
The next thing to consider is who will be sleeping in the bed. You might want to buy a childrens divan bed for your six-year old, but if you're buying a bed to put in your child's room until he goes to university, you might invest in an extra-long twin or a full-sized bed that will last him through adulthood.
If you're buying a bed for yourself and your partner, consider how much space you each require to sleep well. If one of you tosses around all night, you might want a king instead of the more popular double, and if one of you is particularly tall, you might try out a king size or a super king size bed.
The last thing to think about is the size of the bedroom where you'll put the bed. Don't be deterred from buying a bigger bed if you have a small bedroom, but do consider space-saving options like a storage bed. Also, if you have to carry a king-sized bed upstairs, consider buying a split box spring, which will allow you to move the bed more easily.
