Make sure the style you choose will suit you for the next several years, as bedroom furniture is an expensive, long-term investment.
Next, decide what types of beds will fit well with your style. Could you use a platform bed? Would a four-poster bed look excellent in your traditionally-styled room? Also, what materials and colours should you choose? If you're going for a modern look, a metal bed can look fantastic, but a deep brown wooden bed would fit better into an Asian-themed room.
Now, you need to set a budget. You know what you like, but you might have to search around to find it second-hand or at a cheaper store if you can't afford the designer version. Set a budget you can stick to, and remember you aren't just buying this furniture for the next year. It should last a while, so you need to be sure you can afford good quality furniture.
Finally, go shopping. As you look for a new bed, be sure to check things like quality. A real wooden frame, for example, will last longer than a laminate bed. Also, if you're going to attach your own headboard and footboard, measure them to be sure they'll fit on the new frame.
