Solving Back Pain

No matter who you are, there are few things in life worse than dealing with constant back pain. In fact, back pain relief is a very large industry. All you have to do is watch television, flip through a magazine, or listen to the radio and you will come across some advertisement or the other for a product that helps get rid of back pain once and for all. However, the truth is that for many people, getting rid of back pain is a simple matter of exercise and a better mattress.

The role exercise plays

For the most part, back pain is caused by strained muscles in various parts of the back. When you strain a muscle it spasms to protect it self and this spasm causes pain which of course gets you to quit doing whatever it was that hurt you in the first place. While many things can contribute to back pain, one of the ones that is under your direct control is your weight. By losing a few pounds, you place less stress on the muscles of your back and this helps a lot. Also exercise strengthens the muscles of the back which also helps reduce back pain.

The role your mattress plays

Over the course of your life you will spend a little over one third of it sleeping. On an average day most people get anywhere from 6 to 10 hours' sleep. For people with back pain, this means 6 to 10 hours of sleep tossing and turning and never quite getting the rest they need. The lead cause to tossing and turning is a mattress that no longer supports the body the way it should. If you are not getting the rest you need, and you wake up with your back in pain. Look out for a different mattress; it could make all the difference in the world.
