Platform Top
This type of base has a solid top without the springs that the sprung edge base has. The platform divan is basically a 'box' with a padded base which the mattress sits on. The platform base is constructed of wood and is more affordable than the sprung edge as it uses fewer materials and less labour. A platform top base will make the whole bed feel firmer
Sprung Edge
Sprung edge base beds are generally more luxurious than platform bed because of the additional materials and craftsmanship required to manufacture a spring edge base. The sprung edge base is a little misleading as the whole of the base of the bed (the bit of the bed the mattress rests on) has springs. This makes the bed much more supportive across the whole mattress with no ‘hard edges’ and aids the mattress itself in providing a softer more supportive base. The sprung edge base is a longer lasting bed type as the mattress will last longer. The best will feel softer than a platform base.
